Apple Launches New iPad mini in India With OLED Display and A20 Pro Chip: Price, Features and Availability

If you’ve ever wanted an iPad that fits easily into a backpack, handbag or even a large jacket pocket, Apple’s latest announcement might catch your attention. The company has unveiled its redesigned iPad mini, and this time, the changes go beyond a processor upgrade.

The new model gets an 8.5-inch OLED display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a slimmer body and IP67-rated water and dust resistance. Apple has also improved the cameras and wireless connectivity, making the tablet more appealing for people who want a powerful device without carrying a full-sized iPad.

There’s one catch, though. With an Indian starting price of ₹82,900, the new iPad mini isn’t exactly an impulse purchase.

Here’s what Indian buyers should know before spending their money.

Apple iPad mini 2026: Price in India and sale date

Apple has announced three storage options for the new iPad mini: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Buyers can choose between Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Cellular versions, with nano-texture display options available on selected configurations.

Here is the Indian pricing announced by Apple.

StorageWi-FiWi-Fi + Cellular
128GB₹82,900₹1,00,900
256GB₹94,900₹1,12,900
512GB₹1,18,900₹1,36,900

The nano-texture glass option costs extra and is available with selected 256GB and 512GB configurations.

Students and eligible education customers can get the new iPad mini starting at ₹76,900 under Apple’s education pricing.

When can you buy it?

  • Pre-orders in India open on October 28, 2026.
  • Sales and deliveries begin on November 6, 2026.
  • Colour options include Midnight and Starlight.

Customers can order through Apple’s India website, the Apple Store app and authorised Apple resellers once sales begin.

A bigger OLED screen without a bigger tablet

The biggest change is the display. Apple has moved from the previous generation’s 8.3-inch screen to a larger 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel.

That might not sound like a dramatic increase on paper, but the extra screen space can make a difference when reading documents, editing photographs, watching videos or working with multiple apps. Apple has kept the overall footprint similar by making the bezels around the display 24% thinner.

The switch to OLED is particularly welcome. Compared with traditional LCD screens, OLED can produce deeper blacks, richer contrast and more vibrant colours. This should make films, photographs and games look more immersive.

Apple claims peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, while the display can dim to just 1 nit for comfortable viewing in darker surroundings.

There is another interesting addition: a nano-texture glass option on selected models. It is designed to reduce reflections and glare, which could be useful if you regularly use your iPad near a window, outdoors or under bright office lighting.

For most buyers, the standard display should be sufficient. The nano-texture version is worth considering mainly if reflections are a persistent problem in your working environment.

A20 Pro chip: More power for apps, gaming and AI

The new iPad mini is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2-nanometre process.

Apple claims the processor delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance, up to 2.7 times faster graphics performance and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance compared with the previous-generation iPad mini.

These are Apple’s performance claims rather than independently verified results, but they point towards a substantial hardware upgrade.

What does that mean in everyday use?

For students, it could mean smoother multitasking between lecture notes, PDFs, browser tabs and productivity apps. Professionals working with documents, presentations and creative applications should benefit from the additional processing headroom. Gamers can also expect improved graphics performance in supported titles.

The A20 Pro includes Neural Accelerators in its GPU cores to support AI workloads. The 512GB model also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine configuration, according to the published specifications.

The tablet runs iPadOS 27 and supports Apple’s next generation of Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI experience, which is rolling out in beta.

However, AI availability can depend on the software version, language and region. Indian buyers should check which features are actually available for their preferred language before making an AI-driven purchase decision.

Thinner, lighter and now water-resistant

Apple has made the new iPad mini just 5.4mm thick, with a slimmer and lighter design than its predecessor.

This is where the mini form factor continues to make sense. If you travel frequently, attend college lectures or move between meetings throughout the day, a compact tablet is much easier to carry than a larger iPad or laptop.

The new model also carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. This offers additional protection against accidental exposure to dust and water under specified test conditions.

It is not a licence to take the tablet swimming or deliberately expose it to water. Still, the added protection is reassuring for a device that may spend much of its life travelling between classrooms, offices, cafés and homes.

Cameras get an upgrade, too

The front camera is now a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera positioned along the landscape edge. Center Stage helps keep the user appropriately framed during supported video calls, making the setup more natural when the tablet is used horizontally.

This should be useful for online classes, FaceTime calls, virtual meetings and remote collaboration.

At the back, the tablet has a 12-megapixel camera with Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second. An Adaptive True Tone flash is also included to improve photography and document scanning in challenging lighting.

Let’s be realistic: most people aren’t buying an iPad mini primarily for photography. The more useful benefit is having a capable camera for scanning notes, capturing documents, attending calls and recording occasional video.

Better connectivity and a new audio experience

Apple has introduced its N1 wireless networking chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support to the iPad mini.

Cellular models use Apple’s C2 modem, with the company claiming up to 50% faster cellular data speeds than the previous generation. These improvements should help with connectivity, although actual speeds will depend on network coverage, the router and the mobile plan you use in India.

Cellular models also support eSIM, allowing compatible mobile plans to be activated digitally.

Another new feature is Apple’s Acoustic Display system. Specially designed speakers use the display and enclosure to improve bass, volume and sound clarity.

For someone who watches videos during a commute, plays games or attends online classes, better audio can make a noticeable difference. The actual experience will, of course, depend on the content and listening environment.

What can Indian users actually do with the new iPad mini?

The compact design makes this tablet particularly interesting for a few groups of users.

For college students: It can serve as a digital notebook for PDFs, lecture material, handwritten notes and revision. Apple Pencil support makes it more useful for students who prefer writing directly on the screen.

For working professionals: It is a convenient device for reading reports, reviewing presentations, annotating documents and joining video meetings while travelling.

For doctors and healthcare professionals: A compact screen can be useful for reviewing permitted clinical documents, reference material and schedules while moving between departments. Any use involving patient information must follow the organisation’s privacy and security policies.

For travellers and commuters: The lighter design makes it easier to carry than a full-sized tablet. Downloaded films, books, games and documents can also be useful when internet connectivity is unreliable.

For casual gamers and entertainment lovers: The OLED screen and faster processor should make the device attractive for gaming, streaming and reading. Just remember that a larger display doesn’t automatically mean a better experience for every game or application.

The Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) are both supported, giving users a choice of stylus depending on their needs and budget.

Accessories will add to the final bill

The tablet’s starting price is only part of the story. If you want to use it as a complete note-taking or productivity setup, accessories can push the total cost higher.

Apple has announced the following prices for India:

AccessoryPrice
TechWoven Smart Folio₹8,500
Apple Pencil Pro₹11,900
Apple Pencil (USB-C)₹7,900

For example, the base Wi-Fi iPad mini with the Apple Pencil Pro and Smart Folio would cost ₹1,03,300 before any discounts or other accessories.

That is a significant amount for a compact tablet. Buyers should factor in the accessories they genuinely need rather than assuming the headline price covers the entire setup.

Is the new iPad mini worth ₹82,900?

The answer depends on what you want from a tablet.

If portability is your biggest priority, the new iPad mini has a strong case. It combines a high-quality OLED display, powerful hardware, Apple Pencil support and a compact design that is difficult for larger tablets to match.

The upgrade also makes sense for users who want better performance, improved screen quality and added water and dust resistance than the previous model offers.

But if your main goal is watching films, browsing the web or attending occasional online classes, ₹82,900 is a lot to spend. A larger-screen tablet, a discounted previous-generation iPad or an Android tablet may provide better value depending on your requirements.

The Cellular version also commands a substantial premium. Before paying an additional ₹18,000 for the base model, consider whether you really need mobile data on the tablet or can comfortably use your phone’s hotspot.

For existing iPad mini owners, the OLED screen and faster chip are attractive upgrades. Whether it is worth replacing a working device will depend on how much you use it and whether the new features solve problems you currently face.

GadgetGyan verdict

Apple has given the iPad mini a meaningful refresh rather than another routine processor bump. The bigger OLED screen, A20 Pro chip, thinner design and IP67 rating make it a more capable compact tablet.

For Indian buyers, however, the price is the biggest consideration. At ₹82,900, this is a premium product aimed at people who specifically value portability and performance, not bargain hunters looking for a general-purpose tablet.

If you are a student, professional or frequent traveller who will use the device every day, the new iPad mini could be a compelling option. If you simply need a screen for entertainment and basic tasks, it may be worth comparing alternatives before spending the money.

Our advice: Check the final configuration and accessory costs before ordering. Pre-orders open on October 28, with availability starting November 6, 2026.
